Dr. Erika Meierding is a licensed psychologist who is passionate about helping clients recover from anxiety, insomnia, and trauma-related disorders. Dr. Meierding is originally from Minnesota, where she attended St. Olaf College and earned a B.A. in Psychology and French language studies. She went on to earn her PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of North Dakota in 2022. Dr. Meierding completed her predoctoral internship in Topeka Kansas at the Department of Veteran’s Affairs, where she received specialized training in evidence-based treatments for a wide variety of issues including anxiety, PTSD, and insomnia. After finishing her training, Dr. Meierding moved to Iowa to be closer to family and has been licensed to practice in Iowa since 2023.
Her clinical approach is grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which is a treatment approach focusing on the connections between thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. She completed certification in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), which is a first line treatment for chronic insomnia. She also has received extensive training in the treatment of anxiety and PTSD through cognitive and exposure-based therapies, designed to help facilitate recovery. Dr. Meierding is passionate about helping clients build practical skills to manage their symptoms, improve their functioning, and move toward a life that feels meaningful. She enjoys working with individuals from all walks of life, but she especially enjoys working with members of the LGBTQ+ community.
When Dr. Meierding is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and her two cats.
